dead diamond tweeter

I have had my B&W 802Ds since they were introduced and never have grown tired of their sound. However over the years I have had to replace the diamond tweeter two times on the same speaker. Each time the diamond part of the tweeter has shattered. Well, now is the third time (it's almost like a built in consumable) any how The questions are the tweeters still available, if so what number must I call ( US or England) to order one and any idea how much they are going for now a days. Its been strange, it has always been the same speaker no matter what amp was driving it or the physical location of the speaker. I have been known to play them at a substantial volume :scratch2: from time to time The first two times the dealer (no longer in business) replaced them so this is my first time.
Thanks Ed :sigh::tears:

Geez man... is it the same speaker's tweeter each time? There's obviously something off...

Could it be a defect in the crossover, sending midrange and or bass frequenies to the tweeter. These signals have much more power and could easily overwhelm a tweeter to breaking point.

If you could obtain the schematics and if it is feasible to access the circuit, a proper measurement setup would help in finding the root cause of the tweeter failure.

I agree, this many tweeters gone bad is beyond coincidental.

@edkoz- I am sorry to hear about your misfortune with your diamond tweeter. As noted above your issue sounds suspicious.

Here is the link to the US B & W parts website: http://www.bwgroupusa.com/bwgroup-parts/index.php/

I hope this is helpful, good luck with getting your speaker running properly.

May need a new crossover too Ed

I hate to disagree with Ivan on a technical issue, especially since I'm not a technical guy, haha. But if this was a crossover problem, wouldn't the sound be obviously compromised? Especially since the other speaker would be correct?
