I have borrowed a pair of Empyrean from work and it is now my new favorite. My main cans are Focal Utopia, Stellia, HiFiman HE6, Audeze LCD3 and Senn HD800.

If I only had one pair it would be the Empyrean.

The sound signature feels like Accuphase. Detailed and sweet without being fatiguing. The most impressive is how the headphone creates a wide separation of layers beyond your ears. It is a wide soundstage but not quite in front of you the way that the HD800 could. But I don’t like how the HD800’s sound signature.

HD800 is far too accurate and detail oriented sounding for my taste. I do not enjoy "studio grade" accurate headphones. I prefer the warmer and more organic sound that sacrifices a bit of perceived resolution and detail for musicality.

Sounds like the Empyrean is worth investigating for my taste and preference. Thanks for the feedback.

I heard them at my dealer.
I'm not really a headphone person, but they would be on my shopping list if I were to purchase new cans (I own the Senn HD650).

This is exactly my case. Not a headphone person, own HD650. I purchased the Empyrean and found it to be something like HD650 on steroids - similar sound signature, but more of everything, quite to my taste. It is the opposite of HD800, which for me was too analytical/bright and lacked bass.

If you tried and liked HD650, you will like these more. I am using the Empyrian with an old Violectric head amp (HPA V200), which drives them
easily, but it s due for an upgrade. I am looking at their newer models that just started to appear (DHA V590, HPA V550).

I imagine the new Violectric would be perfect for the Empyrean with their 32 ohm impedance. I had the Violectric V281 which was a fantastic amp. That amp was a smidgen on the darker side since its strength was built "up" from its stupendous bass foundation. (superb voltage rails and power supply much like the SPL Phonitors)
