Sim Carbon Fiber anyone?

NO LAUGHING allowed! :D

Must be about my 6th generation now of a "custom" music player.
..beginning with my early "bread-box PC" looking abominations, I'm finally getting close.

Along with what are now literally probably 100 or more tweaks to the PC's setup- Motherboard/CPU/BIOS/Win7/JRiver etc, the cases have evolved quite a bit also. Ultimate goal has been to build an appliance that looks like an audio component instead of a Computer sitting beside audio components.

This latest iteration uses a LianLi PC-C37 case (now apparently discontinued)
The innards of the case get lined completely with vinyl damping material, all extraneous fan mounting holes get properly plugged etc.

Even with the innards tweaked, I hated having the unused USB/Audio/CD drive etc. stuff sitting on the case front. Ultimately I'll likely build a custom aluminum front panel that is "bolt on" to the case. In the mean-time, some Bondo (yes Bondo) and some of the sim carbon fiber, has at least gotten the contraption looking a little less computer-ish. While I'm not crazy about the sim carbon look, it's cheap, and, not too awful bad. :scratch2: or is it?

first image is the basic PC-C37 case...

Rayooo.......I like the new look. It fits right in next to the W4S DAC. Good job.

Looks good!

It you don't mind losing the labels for each button, you could also take off the top lid of the DAC-2 and cover it in CF also.

Hey Rayooo, can you re post the pictures? I knows it's old, but I'd love to see a DIY rig! And I still like carbon fiber... :thumbs up:
