Feedback on 805D3 and DB2 sub
 

I have read most of the reviews available. My current family room system has B&W N804 with an ASW800 sub. Looking to upgrade and am considering the current 805D3 and a DB2 sub. This will be for 95% music listening via current gen iTouch, MAC6700, D150, and MCT450. Looking for any personal experience with either model. I am getting some trade-in value with current speakers.

On another side note, any current way to direct digital from iTouch to D150?

When paired with a good sub, the 805 series will provide very capable and pleasing sound. You just need to get the crossover point correct. I sold my N805 to my brother and I regret it every time I visit. I don’t recall the brand, but he’s running them with two 10” subs. Sounds fantastic in the smallish room.

I haven’t heard the 805D3’s, but I have heard the 803D3. If the upgrade from N805 to 805D3 is anything at all like the upgrade from N803 to 803D3, you’ll love them!

I own the 802D3 and the DB2D.
The DB2D is soooo awesome! It is so great! It goes down very deep. All i can say: Buy it first.
There's an app from B&W. You'll control the Sub with that app. The profiles for the D3- and D2- and 70xS2-Line are integrated.

Haven't heard the 805 nor 803D3s. But the whole Nautilus-Line and the 802D3 and 800D3. Had the N802 (and N804 and N805) before the 802D3. If you can afford the 803 - buy it. But the sub first. It makes so much fun in a very good way.

Thank you for the replies about B&W 805D3. I initially asked about the 803D3. With trade (N804 plus ASW800) would be $13K. For 805D and stands plus DB2D net would be $8.4K. If I can dealer to $12K for 803D3 I will do it. My current pairing is very satisfying yet 13 yrs old. I have the bug to change up the family room system which gets 75% of the use. GBP, how did you like your N804s?

My family room is approx. 25’ x 25’ x 18’.

I have the DB2 and paired it previously with 805D2’s and more recently 802D2’s - other than an electronic issue which B&W fixed with no questions, I found the DB2 to integrate very well.

Since moving to the 800D3 series I no longer find it necessary to have the sub woofer for music - the new 800’s are simply amazing!

In 1999 i bought the N805. The little queens.
I wanted more of all so i bought the N804 for Front. The N805 went to Rear and the HTM2 came in. Together with a Cabasse-Volcano-A30-Subwoofer.
It was overall great, but in Stereo it was... Hmmm, something missing. Voices were nice, but the bass or even subbass? Hmmm. Naaaaa... I was missing some "fullness".
So after just one year i bought the N802 and was happy.

A close friend of mine bought the N804 and in his small room they were astonishing. My room was really too big for them.

This was 17 years ago and this February i purchased the DB2D first and after two weeks the 802D3. Afterwards i wish to had bought the 800D3.

But anyway - every 80xD3 is awesome together with the DB2D.

dont forget to buy an Iphone with DB series subwoofer as they still dont work with Android :icon_thumbsdown:

Works great on Android.

I had the N805s in my living room’s secondary system. I could never get them to sound quite right (very bass shy and bright for the room).

I’m sure the D3’s would sound better and moving up the line should too.

I recently picked up some pre-owned Sonus Faber Cremonas and I’m absolutely blown away by the sound. (I have a McIntosh MAC6700 integrated for the Cremonas).

If you are willing to deviate from B&W you should check out some SF towers.

I have a pretty large room that has 18’ vaulted ceilings and opens up to a large kitchen. It’s a tough room.

I feel zero need to even have a subwoofer, which is shocking (I love bass). I cannot imagine how much better these would sound in a better room.

My secondary system sounds good even when compared to my main rig, which is anchored by B&W Signature 800’s and McIntosh separates.

Had I heard this SF/McIntosh combination I have in the secondary system first, I’d have never spent the money I did assembling my main rig.

Just a thought for your consideration.

I own the 802D3. They have the ability to give us some decent bass (-3dB @ 17 Hz according to B&W which i cannot really confirm) as you might know
But tbh the DB2D (or even) DB1D makes such an unbelievable (!) big difference. Unable to describe it. Even in my motherlanguage.
