These Rockport speakers were the real deal. This room sounded absolutely amazing. I was very impressed.

Any idea what those feet are under the cd player?

VT Skier 10-13-2012 08:48 AM

I agree, these speakers are very good. Ugly, but capable of excellent sound in a fairly small room.

Wasatch 10-13-2012 09:29 AM

Another pair of speakers I would love to listen too.

joeinid 10-13-2012 09:43 AM

Another amp (VK-655SE) I'd like to listen to :)

Ritmo 10-13-2012 09:56 AM

These speakers are quite nice. First time I've listened to them. Used Transparent cable. Had to replace the BAT line stage with Electrocompaniet due to transportation issues.

If the Playback Design had one more digital input it would surely be on the short list to replace my MCD-1100.

VT Skier 10-14-2012 08:29 AM

The sound in this room was so good I think I went back twice after my first visit. These speakers are remarkably good, and remarkably ugly. And the BAT amp was terrific, more neutral than prior generations but still on the warm side. Excellent sound in every way.

Love the feedback Jon. Keep it coming! I don't think the Rockports are that ugly.

Truly the eye of the beholder - we've been getting lots of compliment on the look of the Aviors in our store - and yes - the sound is to die for.

Is that a "paired" Roller Block, Jr. under that gorgeous BAT VK-655SE?

No, it was something else... :scratch2:

I think the Rockports looked and sounded beautiful. In fact, it was easily a top 10 room for me.

This room I indeed sounded excellent; very musical yet transparent and natural sounding. The Playback Designs and Electrocompaniet preamp were exceptional, IMO.

Guys, those are Stillpoints under the gear; the ones under the Playback and Electrocompaniet sell for $375 for three feet.

Stephen, you don't think the BAT amp was a significant contributor? ;)

If anything, the Electrocompaniet held the system back a bit in terms of resolution. A little too much warmth.

Sadly, the Rex preamp that was supposed to be used was damaged during shipping to the show. I would have loved to have heard both BAT units together.

Yes, but I was impressed with the qualities the Electrocompaniet brought to the table.

And the Playback Designs, of course.

Ha! No accounting for taste. ;)

I thought the warmth the Electrocompaniet brought was just right.

I think they are closer to $275 apiece, although i won't swear to it. The ones under the amp are more like $500 apiece.

I just took possession of a beautiful pair of Rockport Mira 2s. I have them paired with an MC452 and C50, along with a Berkeley Alpha DAC 2. Waiting for my Basis 2001 Sig tt, with Vector tonearm to arrive. I haven't finished setting the system up yet, but first impression is great. I will be sure to expand on my findings when I've had them a while.

jdandy 10-20-2012 07:52 PM

suburban.......The McIntosh MC452 and C50 should light up the Rockport Mira 2's. Are your Rockport's black?

Bodhisattva 10-21-2012 01:13 AM

Lovely speakers. I have to agree the Rockports are superb :) The choice of the PBD deck was probably a good choice in this system since it's on the dark side of neutral. The Bat mono's, and especially Electro pre would have illuminated the sound.

They are indeed Stillpoints . Ultra SS to be exact. $250 each with the optional Utra base @ $69 each. The Ultra base is overkill as they are very stable without.
Stephen, you were probably thinking of the minis, which are $375 for 3.

I have a set of 3 under my pre amp, phono stage and ss amp. Amazingly good products. Gonna try under my speakers if I ever get them fixed. Don't really want to remove them from the phono or amp atm.

Cheers

Cheers

Hello jdandy. Yes they are black. I am very excited about these beauties. First thing I would say. I am amazed at how well they work in my small...12X14 room, without overloading, even at very high volume. I have the side firing woofers facing out and they sound much better this way. I've had some great speakers in this room....B&W 802 Diamonds and Thiel 3.7s. The Rockports are by far the most "room friendly" in my system. My room is dedicated and fully treated. I am using the Berkeley Dac 2 and it is an amazing piece, but I am anxiously waiting for my Basis turntable that I have on order.

Wasatch 10-25-2012 09:44 AM

Beautiful!

mbovaird 10-25-2012 09:48 AM

Bruce - congrats on the Rockports. Thanks for the smooth transaction selling me the Classe CA-2300 amp! It should arrive today or tomorrow. Enjoy the Rockports and new TT.

Bruce...you have just purchased my favorite speakers. I have been eyeing the Miras for some 4-5 yrs. Haven't heard the Mira 2s yet but my dealer tells me they handily beat the originals. Just waiting till I can afford them to upgrade from my Thiel 2.4s. What Basis tt do you have on order?

A big congrats on the Mira 2s and the new Basis tt. Sounds like you are putting a wonderful system together anchored by the blue meters:thumbsup:

I am waiting for the Basis 2001 Signature with the latest Vector tonearm. Reluctantly, I recently parted with my Transrotor Fat Bob S....a great table. I have a tubed Keith Herron phono stage that is a keeper.

cmalak 10-25-2012 03:51 PM

Nice tt :D I have the non-Signature version in black acrylic with Graham 2.2 arm. Enjoy the new tt

I liked this room and could see why people like the speakers. My concern would be that the Rockports are a little to forgiving, In the end I like the YGs, Magicos, and a couple of the Wilsons more.

Masterlu 12-22-2012 09:18 AM

These Rockport Aviors have caught my attention again; I'm thinking how they might sound with Plinius Gear. :scratch2:

Ivan...I suspect you will like the Rockport sound very much. I would think Plinius would be a very nice pairing especially their Class A amps. Andy Payor (Rockport's founder/designer/owner) uses Gryphon Class A amps in his demo rooms at Rockport and often exhibits with Gryphon Class A amps as well. Rockports are very revealing but also very natural sounding but they will clearly let you hear what are driving them (from source to amps) and the higher the quality of components before them, the more you will be rewarded.
