Jerry.......Trust me, if that girlfriend didn't have the amazing redeeming qualities I enjoyed, her and that cat would have been long gone.

I have not heard the new JBL L100 Classic yet but I suspect the new titanium tweeter, upgraded crossover, and the more finely tuned cabinet should make for an improved sound quality over the original L100. I haven't been able to discover yet if the new L100 Classic comes in mirrored pairs. The original L100's did not. That's one thing I like about my JBL 4312A speakers in the vintage system.

With the 4312SE all ready on the market, makes me wonder why they would be bringing out the L100. Essentially the same speaker.

Glenn.......The JBL L100 Classic and the JBL 4312SE are not the same speaker. The L100 Classic's dimensions are taller, wider, and deeper (25.5" H x 15.5" W x 13.75" D) than the 4312SE (23 1/2" x 14-1/4" x 12"). The cabinet finish of the L100 Classic is walnut veneer with a choice of three color options for the grill, whereas the 4312SE is black with a black cloth grill.

Both the L100 Classic and the 4312SE use JBL's 12" 1200FE woofer, but the midrange drivers and tweeters are different in each model. The L100 Classic uses the JT025Ti1 1-inch Titanium dome tweeter and the JM125PC 5-inch pure-pulp cone cast frame midrange driver. The JBL 4312SE uses the 054ALMg-1 1-inch Magnesium/Aluminum Alloy dome tweeter and the 105H-1 5-inch Polymer-coated Pure Pulp cone midrange driver. The JBL L100 Classic is a 4 ohm speaker. The JBL 4312SE is a 6 ohm speaker. The 4312SE speakers are made in mirrored pairs. The JBL L100 Classic speakers are not mirrored pairs.

So, you can see the JBL L100 Classic and the 4312SE are not essentially the same speaker. They share the same 12" woofer but that's it. Beyond that the L100 Classic and the 4312SE are two distinctly different speakers.

Yep........... pretty much the same speakers.

Heard JBL L100 at the dealer with Revel Performa (I believe new Be) in the "Harmon" room. Performa were towers, don't remember which models, located closer to center with JBL just on on the outside. Harmon rep was there for the dealer "Expo". He was there to introduce new Performa series.

Revels sounded detailed, just like I would expect from a Beryllium tweeter. A bit edgy even in a fully treated room, again like I would expect from a Beryllium tweeter. Tight base. So then I asked to demo JBL, knowing nothing about them.
These things to my ears, walked all over much more expensive and advanced Revels. Sound was warm, even though JBL use aluminum tweeter, wide soundstage, impactful base. They did have a little of that throw back sound of big box KLH speakers I remember at BestBuy way back - but with the sophistication and finesse you expect from modern designs.

Highly recommend a listen. Oh, and I absolutely loved the fun grill choices and real wood finish. "Harmon" rep was perplexed that throughout the day multiple people preferred much cheaper JBL to the cutting edge Performa Be towers. He was blaming it on a better position of L100 relative to Performa.

I heard them for the first time recently and they sounded much better than I anticipated.
They deliver a lot of performance for the price.
However the tweeter is titanium and not aluminum.

I wouldn't mind having a pair in the house...pricey though!
