Reconing JBL Speakers

My 50 year old JBL LE15A woofers are both in need of reconing. Wondering if anyone here has any experience with this.

Tony, if it were me, I'd take them to an authorized JBL warranty center. Those are the only folks that can actually repair your drivers with original parts. JBL does not sell recone kits for their drivers (diaphragms for compression drivers are the only exception to this) to individuals nor will they sell to shops unless they have been factory certified. Factory authorization of warranty centers, even for consumer products, is administered by the Professional division so that can make finding service confusing for consumers.

Here is a list of authorized folks in California.

It is very likely that recone kits for your drivers will be available from JBL, but you can check with the repair shop most convenient to you to be sure.

Be wary of non-authorized shops that offer to recone your speakers using original parts. They don't have access to the OEM kits and any talk to the contrary should be taken with a large helping of salt. Reconing is a prized certification and requires a trip to the factory for training. It's not rocket science but a good job requires somebody who has been both trained and takes pride in their work. As long as the magnets and castings are up to snuff, properly reconed drivers will meet all specifications and be indistinguishable from new.

Added: I realized only after I posted this that Tony asked this question 9 months ago. See what I mean about audiot?
