Anyone seen the ad on TAS?

Still-One 02-10-2021 07:59 PM

Saw it but really doesn't show much.

2fastdriving 02-10-2021 08:05 PM

Same here...I couldn't even make out what I was looking at :D

joey_v 02-11-2021 11:25 AM

Can’t find it on their website
The qrcode on the ad was down and I already tossed the mag since I finished reading it

I wonder if the "V" has something to do with the V material used in the XVX. Either that or 5 years after the Alexx was introduced. :dunno:

When it came time to upgrade the Alexx®, Daryl Wilson wanted to be sensitive to where research and development had brought Wilson Audio over the past five years. The decision was made that a fresh look at the Alexx was in order, so Wilson Audio’s R&D team approached the Alexx V as it if were an all-new loudspeaker. They took elements that clearly worked in the original design and began to apply the myriad of technologies generated by Wilson’s R&D since the advent of the Alexx. Following major launches of the WAMM Master Chronosonic®, Chronosonic XVX®, Sasha DAW®, and SabrinaX®, Alexx V joins a very special family of groundbreaking loudspeakers designed and handcrafted especially for music lovers and audiophiles alike.

The original Alexx loudspeaker, launched in 2016, quickly gained critical acclaim throughout the industry. Alexx benefited from several elements developed during the five years Wilson Audio’s founder David A. Wilson, and his unwavering R&D team, brought to life his magnum opus: the WAMM Master Chronosonic. Now, five years after the monumental accomplishment of the WAMM, Alexx V builds upon the original Alexx’s success by offering a completely re-engineered performance envelope without greatly increasing the footprint. Comparing the overall size of Alexx V to the original, Alexx V is only 1” deeper and 1” taller while maintaining the same width.

Each and every component of Alexx V has been re-evaluated and significantly improved. The launch of Alexx V represents a cumulative approach to loudspeaker design, something that Wilson Audio has been steadfast about integrating since the very first location monitor that Dave built almost five decades ago. Incorporating the latest technologies, engineering efficiencies, and material sciences, Alexx V has improved upon the original Alexx by giving, yet again, a higher level of resolution (both temporally and audibly). Finally, Alexx V incorporates Wilson Audio’s latest design language which started with the WAMM Master Chronosonic. The open gantry design not only allows for more structural rigidity and setup flexibility, it also provides a more free flowing organic look and emotionally expressive sound.

When it came to #Alexx V’s tweeter, the R&D team once again considered all available options. Fundamentally, the integration of the tweeter and midrange is an absolutely critical element to sound reproduction. Countless hours were spent examining areas of improvement. After careful and methodical consideration, the R&D team decided to build an all-new tweeter system. Therefore, Alexx V features an entirely new Convergent Synergy Carbon (CSC) tweeter, which builds upon a modified version of the previous Convergent Synergy motor while embracing an outstanding and intricately innovative rear-wave chamber. This all carbon fiber design is completely manufactured in-house using several 3D printers. The sonic results of this tweeter development cycle have been nothing short of dramatic. The CSC offers far greater and more linear high frequency extension while providing unprecedented ambient retrieval and superior harmonic detail.

Continuing the Midrange – Tweeter – Midrange (MTM) design geometry of the original Alexx, our engineering team has spent considerable time advancing key components of the loudspeaker’s sound characteristics. Every baffle angle, at every module position, has been refined. The time-alignment accuracy of Alexx V is much closer to the XVX, giving this system the ability to recreate micro-detail one would expect from a much larger system.

As best as I can tell the Alexx V sells for about 150,000.00. Is this correct? Did I miss the price somewhere?

My guess if you go for any of the Pearl options you will be in the $150k range if the starting price is $135k. Haven't talked to my dealer yet so that is a guess.

Jim, the Alexx V info is being updated frequently. I may have missed the press release but the press release that I now see on the website says you are correct. Price is 135,000.00 USD or about a 20% increase over the original. That's pricey but in line with the Aida II (130,000.00) and much less than the Magico M6 (172,000.00). I predict the Alexx V will be stiff competition for the M6 and the Aida II. Weight is 500 pounds. I think the design quite beautiful. If I were looking at speakers in this price range being a Wilson aficionado for me it would be a slam dunk. Press release is very informative.

Best

They say these Alexx V's are a Bargain...they are just as good as the very high priced XVX's

I had the pleasure of listening to the new Alexx V's last weekend. They are a superb speaker. In the very large room that I heard them in, they could portray 'scale' like few others. Having heard the original Alexx, which also greatly impressed me, I would say that the new model is a step up in SQ. Slightly more extension at both frequency extremes. Whether the price difference of $26K is worth it, is questionable. The current price of the older Alexx makes it somewhat of a bargain..certainly IMO compared to the new models pricing.

HiFi News Alexx V review by Ken Kessler and Paul Miller in the January issue:

"What the Alexx V represents, to this veteran Wilson listener, is
the utopian midpoint between the WATT’s focus and scale of the
Chronosonic XVX. This enormous system delivers the soundstage
and presence expected of a coffinsized construct, yet it produces
detail and precision to rival any point-source. It’s dangerous to
say these words, but here goes...the Alexx V is the best damned
speaker I have ever heard."

The Alexx V also received a very positive review in the December 2021 Stereophile by Jim Austin. If I were in the market for a speaker in this price range, Alexx V would definitely be my choice.
