Digital audio delay issue - Oppo 205, Samsung TV, McIntosh MC2200

Just purchased a 85" Samsung Q90T for bed room.
Looking for best audio connection to my McIntosh bedroom system? Having audio delay, only when tv is the source...while streaming. Regular satellite and dvd viewing...no issues.

Bedroom McIntosh system: C2200, MC1201's, B&W 802D's, Oppo 205 dvd, Samsung Q90T tv.

Samsung tv has 4 separate HDMI 2.0 inputs... with HDMI IN 3 (eARC).

Currently have setup as follows:

For watching program satellite tv:
Direct TV box, HDMI output... to HDMI 1 on tv. Video.
Direct TV box, RCA audio out... to RCA input on C2200 in Sat input. Audio.

For streaming on Samsung tv:
For audio...Optical Digital output of Samsung tv....to Oppo 205 digital optical input.
XLR output of Oppo 205... to C2200. (audio delay)

Watching DVD:
Oppo 205...HDMI to tv for video only.
Oppo 205 xlr output to C2200 for audio. Set for PCM.

Issue is... While using tv as source, while streaming...I'm having an audio delay. Audio and video are not exactly matched up.
In Sound settings of tv, under Expert Settings... there is a Digital Output Audio Delay adjustment. (Function is only available when device is connected via HDMI-eARC or SPDIF) Not sure why they say SPDIF, tv has no SPDIF output?

Solution?
Samsung tv has..HDMI IN 3 (eARC)...passes audio both ways.
Oppo 205 has HDMI input. Select Input 3.ARC: HDMI Output on dvd player. (Oppo 205 owners manual says this will work).
Should this work?
By using HDMI cable for audio from tv to dvd player, where I can adjust time delay. (Both tv and dvd player have Digital Audio Time Delay adjustments in menu. However, I think time adjustment is for audio output only? So adjust tv time delay.)

I tried adjusting time delay (using Optical digital cable...tv to dvd player) on Oppo 205 menu...didn't make any difference?
May be to adjust digital audio Output only?

Think if I connect tv via HDMI IN 3 eARC to dvd player's HDMI input..... I can adjust time delay in tv menu?

SPDIF = coaxial OR optical.

We use an OPPO 205 as well. It appears your TV is always the source for the Oppo except when actually playing disks (of course). In that case, I recommend using the ARC (HDMI 3) output of the TV only to the OPPO. This passes the full audio down to the Oppo (SPDIF/Optical often only passes 2 channel audio). Let the Oppo do the down mix. In this way the OPPO processes all audio - set the time delay in the OPPO using their menus.

Some good youtube videos out there to help this (bouncing ball with test sound ping, etc.)

Tried using HDMI 3 (eARC) on Samsung TV...to Oppo HDMI IN.
Would not work?
No audio?
TV is set to....Sound Output to Receiver (HDMI), HDMI-eARC Mode set to Auto.

Any thoughts?

On my Sony TV and C53 I feed the eARC to the C53. Sometimes in the switching the C53 mutes the audio. Have you checked that?

ARC, or Audio Return Channel is an HDMI feature where the TV digital audio is returned to an AV receiver, eliminating the need for a separate optical cable. That's all it does.

So an HDMI ARC cable would go from the TV HDMI 3 input to the Oppo UDP-205 main video output. That would work with some caveats.

It seems like you are using your TV to do all the HDMI switching (no AV receiver or pre/pro). I'm assuming this is a 2.0 stereo system and not 5.1, correct?

I think the best option would be to use the optical out from the TV to the optical in of the UDP-205 and then use only the XLR outputs of the Oppo into the C 2200 and use the C 2200 volume control.

If you do this, the Oppo with its excellent DAC's will be processing all the TV audio and you will have uniform delay across all your sources, which you can then fix with the TV's lip sync function. You can run the TV at 100% fixed volume and the oppo at 100% fixed volume and control the volume with the C 2200. It probably has the best volume control of the bunch.

This will also allow you to setup the speaker delays and levels in the Oppo.

By doing this you'll only need to select the desired input on the TV, and the Oppo will handle the downmixing to stereo.

For watching satellite tv:
Direct TV box, HDMI output to HDMI 1 on tv.
Optical from TV to Oppo
Oppo 205 xlr output to C2200 for audio.

For streaming on Samsung tv:
Optical from TV to Oppo
XLR output of Oppo 205 to C2200.

Watching DVD:
Oppo 205...HDMI to tv for video. Optical from TV to Oppo (if possible when playing DVD on Oppo. I'm not sure this will work as I haven't tried it.) If not then just
Oppo 205 xlr output to C2200 for audio.

This will eliminate the separate rca cables from the Direct TV receiver.

ARC actually is the HDMI OUT port on the OPPO 205.

This works very well for us - I tend to recommend ARC - ARC contains the full spectrum output (including various Dolby schemes that optical cannot transmit) and the OPPO will do a very good down mixing as may be needed. Optical can vary from TV to TV as to what information is carried on it. Easy to try both.

I do recommend the OPPO manual. Well written and diagrammed. :)

Digital audio delay issue - Oppo 205, Samsung TV, McIntosh MC2200

Will ARC return audio from the other hdmi inputs?

Unfortunately, the Oppo 205 has an audio delay issue that I haven't found a way to correct.
I tried optical out of my television to the 205.

My Vizio tv also has a lip sync correction setting but that along with the Oppo's settings were not enough to fix the issue in my case.

I have no such issue sending the optical output of the Vizio to my Marantz SA-10 SACD player and it works perfectly.

I'm pretty sure it's a problem with the Oppo. The digital inputs (and outputs for that matter) are not nearly as good as disc playback.

This device works wonders.
