Very specific question about the Esoteric K-01XD player - help!
 

Folks-

I have some hybrid Multichannel/normal SACD discs that are difficult to play (CDs, SACDs, MQA CDs, etc, sound wonderful). The manual says that when the this type of hybrid SACD is stopped, change the playback area to SACD (not multichannel).

The problem is that this type of hybrid multichannel SACD will not even load, so that I cannot stop to change the playback area.

Anyone have this problem or know of solutions?

I have the K01x and think what they are attempting to say is the player must be stopped to enter the set-up menu and select the proper layer. I've experienced the same thing. Some multi-discs just won't play. :scratch2: :thumbsup:

Gerry, I have not experienced this problem with my K-01XD. I have at least two such hybrid discs (which are among my best sonically): Beethoven Piano Concertos 4 & 5, Sudbin, Minnesota Orch., Vanska, BIS -SACD-1758; and Beethoven Symphony #5 and Strauss Horn Concerto, Pittsburg SO, Honeck, Ref. Recordings FR-728SACD.

Gerry, multichannel SACDs should load and 2ch SACD area will play. You should also be able to select the RBCD play area but the manual for this unit states it will not play the multichannel area on a hybrid SACD (page 17).

FYI for future reference:

ESOTERIC transports or players will not load Dual-Disc Enhanced Discs (CD on one side, DVD or computer disc software other side) or any non standard disc format, thickness, etc..

(Not on topic but DVD-A will only load on older universal models, P-03U, UX-1, DV-50S,....)

Esoteric replaced my K-01XD SACD player
 

Folks-

Working with Overture Audio in Delaware, I have replaced my great Esoteric K-01XD SACD/CD player with a new one.

The older one was from a manufacturing run in which the hardware / software could not recognize any SACD that had a multichannel layer - the majority of SACDs.

Took some time and effort, but I am proud that both Esoteric and their distributor Overture Audio did the right thing! Now I can play all of the disks that the player is capable of playing. I have the impacted serial numbers if there is interest.
