VPI Classic 1 to Prime Signature upgrade question
The oldest piece of equipment in my system right now is my turntable, a VPI Classic 1 I purchased in January of 2013. I had a Lyra Delos originally mounted that I upgraded to a Kleos about 2 years ago. I love this turntable and find it difficult to imagine that a turntable upgrade could sound any better, but I was considering a move up to the Prime Signature. I like the upgrades of the "Prime Signature" vs the std "Prime" and feel it's worth the extra dough, but I would love to hear any suggestions from those in the group that have listened to both.
Thanks, Jon |
I haven't heard a Prime Signature, but personally I would consider just upgrading to a 3D tonearm. You'd also need a new pivot spike which is about $100 from VPI to use the 3D arm. And you can also upgrade to the HW-40 feet if you'd like.

Thanks Maks for the response. I hadn't considered upgrading the arm, but I have already upgraded the feet to IsoAcoustics Gaia II and that did make a difference.

Ah so the upgrade bug has bitten...

I frankly doubt you'd hear any difference. The placebo effect might make you think you will but having upgraded numerous times I feel like I just wasted money.

Maks makes a good suggestion with the 3D arm upgrade. You might also think about upgrading the wiring from the TA to your preamp. I noticed a very nice 'openness' and extension with the silver wire in the WW Platinum TA IC compared to the copper wiring in the WW Gold it replaced with my Kleos and Cadenza Black cartridges. Of course, with the Prime Sig you will get the 3D arm as part of the package. And, Ivan may still have one of those stunning Rosewood finish Sigs still available. https://www.audioaficionado.org/showthread.php?t=49260

The Rosewood TT’s are no more. :sigh:

Ivan, do you carry Transparent phono cables and IC's? thx.
