PMC MB2se with Mcintosh gear
2 Attachment(s)
Well after an almost 4 month wait our new PMC MB2SE speakers in Amarone were delivered, setup and have been playing for about 48 hours.
Already I am thinking WOW, everything I said in my thread here holds true today but even better. https://www.audioaficionado.org/showthread.php?t=42279 - Mid Range is as good as it gets - Airiness around the Voices - Bigger Imaging, Fantastic sound from both our listening positions - A Fuller Deeper Soundstage - More powerful Low End - Simply Enjoyable We added Stillpoint Ultra 5’s under the speakers immediately which I think are much better then spikes sitting on top of some MDF wood. Here are some pictures from my iphone until I can get some better shots with my DSLR camera. https://www.audioaficionado.org/atta...0&d=1541257398 https://www.audioaficionado.org/atta...1&d=1541257420 Attachment 57050 Attachment 57051 |

Beautiful!!! Wish I had them in that color. Have the Walnut myself. Can you share with me the size of your listening room. Position in the room from rear and side walls. Distance from you. Any toe in and if so how much? What speaker cables and are you biwiring? Jumper cables? Any info would be helpful.
Thanks in Advance. |

What a beauty! So curious about how the mb2+2301 combo will sing. Mine is mb2+611.

Rob.......Such a beautiful sound system. I like how you have curved the presentation of the racks and speakers. Looks fantastic. . :applause:

That level of McIntosh and PMC (especially the transmission line bass) is clearly in the forefront of home audio systems.

The MC2301 sound very good with the MB2se. What I could use is more bass control, the MB2se are capable of some serious bass. Whether that means changing amps completely and risking the loss of fantastic Mids and Highs or adding another amp for the bass section only. Added a second sub and a JL Audio CR-1 Crossover. All is good now. |
Hi,
the Mc & PMC (MB2se) is a stunnig combo. A freind had Spectral mono with Q3 Magico -> now Mc 601 and MB2se-> sound amazing! ok...personal taste but imho better vs. Spectral&Magico. greets |
FACT 12 to the MB2SE?
I was reading the posts on MB2SE.
I have the FACT 12 in white silk right now. My amplifier is a Bryston 14b cubed Looking at MAYBE upgrading to the MB2SE. Is it a good move forward or more of a side move? Dedicated listening room is 20’ x 19’. Comments? |
CGMQC... Welcome to AA!

Dear MasterLu...I have so many questions. You’ve so many major systems I am truly humbled. I currently run MB2SE fed variously by Esoteric K03Xs SE through PassLabs XP20/XA25 SE
I also run an Esoteric F05 Integrated SE. The SE refers to internal EMI RFI resonance damping treatment. All components treated. I’m enjoying my PMC very much as they recently arrived from Canada to my Villa here in Riyadh. But I find the K03Xs a little too bright. Recently listened on YT to the new release K1X. Interesting improvement but perhaps not enough for me. Also the XA25 maybe a little weak for the MB2SE as well. I’m expecting a Krell DUO XD SE shortly that offers 300W. That should clear this issue. You have many Esoteric SACD players, I wonder which is your favorite? Have you listened to TAD or Luxman SACD in your travels? Or a CDP with Tube Output Stage? Thank you in advance. Sincerely John |

I wonder which PassLabs amp would best suit the MB2SE?
100.8 XA160 250 XS |
Definitely go AB, the Volt woofer is well built with the outside spider but it also needs to be driven well. I used Ayre MXRs and Bryston 28Bs on them when I had them.

Rob, awesome speakers! I’ve always liked those particular ones. I started my journey with PMC TB2i speakers and almost went with MB2s back a ways ago… great finish too!

What's good about and what's better than the PMC MB2se's?
I've had the PMC's for about 2 years listening time. Mostly they were underpowered being fed by PassLabs XA25. But then I connected first my HT Marantz 8805/8077 pair then my ARC D240 MKII. And it has completely, changed the speaker output profile. Much more bass, soundstage, and oomph. So... I have assigned it to HT duties where it performs spectacularly well.
https://www.icloud.com/iclouddrive/0...bRzTw#IMG_3284 During this time, I installed a new amp and horn speakers. I connected the MB2SE speakers to the same amp and then followed the arrival of an end of journey power amp, the Luxman M900u. The speakers are hand-made by Viking Acoustics and use two 12" woofers and a 21" horn-loaded 7" mid-range along with the Alnico super tweeter. These are glorious and outperform the PMC's across the range. Even greater soundstage, mid and treble spread, plus strong powerful bass. https://www.icloud.com/iclouddrive/0...7n5Ig#IMG_3858 But horses for courses, the MB2SE's will fit the HT role far better as their deeper bass pressure suits the HT sound profile. And the VA's fulfill music duty powered gloriously by the Luxman amp. Everyone who's heard this combo says its glorious and the best they've ever heard, including a guy in the music recording industry. Let me know if you have any issues accessing the pics... |
