What is Your Oldest Audio Component?

What is the oldest audio equipment in your system(s)?

I will start this off first: 1952 Western Electric JW 2C51 preamp tubes

Roger.......I don't want to take the wind out of your sail, but vacuum tubes are not audio components in and of themselves. Heck, I have a few 1898 real silver dollars I could probably have extruded into a digital interconnect. :D

jdandy 05-08-2013 12:41 AM

Roger.......My oldest audio component is my Micro Seiki DD-40 turntable and m505A tonearm. I bought it new 34 years ago and still use it daily. I have a new Ortofon Cadenza Blue cartridge that will be mounted on it in a few days, the very first moving coil cartridge to ever be mounted on my m505A tonearm in all those years.

I still have a pair of Ohm E speakers and a Vector Research tuner from 1976. Sadly, the Rotel integrated amp died.

This 1945 Vintage AM/SW radio, sympathetically restored. The Rola loudspeaker sounds great. It is a smooth radio. My only gripe...no FM!

Dan, Nice TT--I alway felt that Micro Seiki made some impressive and beautiful looking turntables.

Steve, nice looking restoration on your vintage radio.

stonecobbler 05-08-2013 01:38 AM

My oldest now is a technics DV9 class a amp , what a powerhouse from the very early 80's , it's been retired now , but really was incredible driving the Bose 901's I used to have, it was a rock and roll amp and not really audiophile to today's standards

Vintage Pete 05-08-2013 05:21 AM

I still have the Marantz 1030 Integrated amp that I bought in 1972. I was proud as a Peacock the day it arrived, a big achievement for me at age 14.

An AR XA turntable c. 1969. It was my dad's last table and now sits in my workshop awaiting restoration. I still remember as a teenager how cool I thought it was when he bought it along with the Sansui receiver and AR speakers, 2ax's I think.

AKA_Hyfi 05-08-2013 07:15 AM

My oldest components that I am still using would be my Hafler 945 and 9180 combo. I still use them today but in the scope of things, they are not that old. Late 80s...

Dan, your MA5100 is not older than that ?

Impressive Pete ! How did you get the money for it ? ( spending / pocket money ? Occasional little works ? ) do you remember its cost ?

Still-One 05-08-2013 11:31 AM

The oldest piece that is connected is the MS-300.
The oldest piece that is used every day would be the Momentum's.
The oldest piece I own is a Sony 8750 turntable that sits on a shelf and is about 35-40 years old.

I forgot the Edison cylinder phonograph upstairs is actually the oldest , but I guess we are talking ones powered by electricity.

Jérôme.......You are correct. I forgot about my vintage system. Although I haven't owned them since they were new, my MA5100 was made in 1968 and my MR74 tuner was made in 1972.

Maks 05-08-2013 03:50 PM

My Dual 1019 is my oldest piece.

Arnold 05-19-2013 08:16 AM

Mine is a Marantz 2270 receiver. Months ago I ordererd many electronic parts to restaurate this beauty. I disassembled it... and while doing this, my job stressed me and I had to stop working at this restauration. Hope to find the right parts at the right place, when I will continue :smoking:

I have a MAC4100 that was purchased in 1978. It still gets used pretty often. I got rid of a Dual 1219 and a Tandberg tape unit that was older than either, but you can't count the departed.

Yeah, GaryProtein...I lucked out when I found the pre-amp and tuner.

Down to the Denon DP80 w/Stax UA-7/CF tonearm, Sony ST-J75 & ST-AT6 & Yamaha T-2 tuners. All are Japanese TOTL pieces from the late '70s - early '80s era with fresh caps, etc., as needed.

Soulbear 05-27-2013 04:49 PM

1973 Marantz 2226 B receiver. Sill running like a champ.

Soulbear 05-27-2013 04:57 PM

Actually, all my stuff is vintage from thrift stores or flea markets:

1973. Marantz 2226 B Receiver
1980. Yamaha p550 turntable with 1984 signet A/T cartridge.
1981. Yamaha Cr 600 receiver
1984. Baby Advent
1981. Adc sound shaper two mk 2. Eq
1991. DCM. Timeframe 600
1991. Adcom. Gfa 535l.

bobschneider 05-30-2013 04:44 PM

In use, a restored Citation 1 & 2 amp and preamp from the early 1960s. I also use a 1970s MR 78 tuner on a daily basis.

I also have a Scott 299 amp (1958) and 330B tuner (1956). These are on display, but not in use. The amp works, the tuner needs repair. I'm the second owner of these, and have had them since 1976.

Arnold 06-10-2013 02:09 PM

Oh Soulbear... I like these old Marantz ...

Not my oldest, but certainly one of my prettiest . . . . Got this one new in 1979

This is my oldest piece. An ELAC Miracord 40A that's been in the family since new, back in the mid 60's. Still mint other than the fact I need a new idler wheel for it. And it's a darn good sounding TT too!

Fisher KX200 most likely,

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-c...0/IMG_8044.JPG

or maybe it's the McIntosh MC225

Well, if we're talking audio equipment and not old antique radios.... then....

A sequential serial numbered pair of Stephens P52A 15" coaxial speakers. Circa 1947-1949 or somewhere thereabouts. Have them mounted in a pair of home built Karlson cabinets that look terrible. But they sound superb!!

Yes... that's a true MULTICELLULAR horn on the front (not a sectoral horn).

How about an original AR-XA from the early '60s? Not the greatest picture (cell phone) but it works great. Just ordered a Cambridge 651P Phono Pre for it. Using a hybrid Jolida 1501 BRC Integrated, a wonderful amp BTW.

Mine would have to be my Thorens TD150AB which sees daily use.

JVC XL-Z444 CD player. Still sounds awesome after 23 years!!

tcmc4 07-17-2013 02:05 PM

Thorens TD160 w/ Shure cartridge which is boxed in storage (under the bed)! I have been aiming to set up now that I have a C500T.

I like that one!

My oldest component is an Audio Research LS5 Mk II line stage from around 1995. It's still working great, but the 10 tubes it requires is a bit overwhelming.
