FTC to kill amplifier rule?

This will pose another problem for our hobby. Please consider writing in in today by following the link in the article:

We should also put some pressure on the vendors we favor in supporting these rules so we don't end up back in the 'wild west' of power and other ratings in the future. No like very many of us are set up to test amps and other gear to see how they perform. Spec's should mean something from one companies products to the next."

Took about two minutes to submit a comment. This is what I said:
"Dear Sirs/Madam:
Am writing to ask the FTC to save and enforce the current Amplifier Rule as it applies to stereo amplifiers and consider expanding it to include the front three channels in multi-channel amplifiers.
Thank you."

Don’t let false claims overrun audio marketing material.

The above statement made me laugh out loud... :D

In my hour of massive disillusionment with claims of audio nirvana for the latest power cable, interconnect, fuse, socket, power supply, magic Schmutz, ad infinitum.....

I hardly think I need the government to protect me from unscrupulous manufacturers making unsubstantiated claims.

What if the FTC were to regulate the specification and performance of power cords or USB cables?

Many manufactures are honest in their specs, others aren’t - see numerous HiFi news or Stereophile measurements.

While I’m normally for deregulation, in this case I believe this part of the industry should be regulated and enforced. I hate manipulative marketing - which are more properly called lies.

This said, they probably have already made up their minds what they will do.

I remember the days of those tiny looking stereos with 4000W PMPO! As if...
With an EE degree, I knew that it was fake marketing; I didn't even know what they
were referring at the time. The gold standard had been RMS and nothing could beat that.

Amen. I've just submitted a similar include-the-third-front-channel comment.
