Magico M3 vs S7?
The M3 seems to have received very high praise amongst the reviewers, and many would say it's a superior speaker compared to the S7. It appears that the M3 has smaller bass drivers than the S7 ( 3 7's vs 3 10's), but has improved midbass and a more refined midrange and tweeter.
Difference in price is 58k (64K if you get the m-coat finish) vs 85k (75k for the speaker, another 10K for the mpod feet). Anyone compared these two, or anyone heard just the M3? |
I spent some time with the M3s...VERY nice speakers.

Thanks for your reply! Could you describe what exactly you liked about them? Have you heard any other lines in Magico ? How would you compare M3 to the other speaker brands ?

I thought they were hyper detailed evenly up and down the frequency range. Especially in the lower end bass region...probably the most detailed I've heard. I heard bass textures in With Or With Out You (U2 Joshua Tree Remastered) that I've never heard before.

I am a Magico S3 Mk II owner but have not heard the S7/M3. From others I believe the S7 (three 10-inch bass drivers) is designed for larger rooms and is a full range speaker. The M3 (three 7-inch bass drivers) is designed for smaller-to-medium rooms. The M3 is part of Magico's more refined premium series, replacing the Q3. Both speakers have received very favorable reviews.

I'll take the bust on the left!

MPODs also work with the S7's to great effect.
S7's are somewhat different in character from the M3's - M3's are more refined, more polite, and sound smaller. S7's sound huge, or rather they disappear but the sound fills the entire space - wall to wall, floor to ceiling, back to front. With proper gear, both sound amazing in their own way but M3's would never work for me personally. S7's for a medium to large room, and for someone who likes the volume turned up and/or listens to rock music or large scale classical for example. To me, the M3's sound better with electronics like Soulution or Constellation while S7's sound better with something Class A. |
