SUBWoofer Upgrade: Stereo REL G2 vs JLA Fathom f113v2
Hi everyone,
I have been a happy REL user for the last 3 years but had to repair my Rel 3 times over the last 4 years. I also feel i can use a stereo configuration given my tri-amped setup. I narrowed down my sub upgrade to: Option A: Adding another Rel G2(found a slightly used one with a new driver) Option B: Going with 2 JLA Fathom F113v2 or F112v2 My room dimensions are 17Lx15Wx11H Setup: Speakers: B&W 802D Pre: C2500/MX122 CrossOver: MEN 220 Amps: 275 mk IV x 2 + MC205 for low and rears I will be most grateful for your recommendations / experience. |
I would suggest selling the oft repaired G2 and either go with a pair of REL 212SE or either pair of JL Fathom.

Thanks I was told that the 212SE May be too big - anyone heard REL S/5 - a pair of them may also be considered. |
It is my opinion that people, in general, are afraid of overloading a room with bass which scares them away from big subs. I understand why. But there is a gain knob. I know that compared to the pair of REL B2 I owned, the JL Audio f110v2 absolutely mopped the floor with REL with respect to sheer output. A pair of f112 and certainly f113 will be on par with REL212 for sheer output. The JL subs are monsters, in a good way.

FWIW, my room is a little bigger than yours, 22 x 15 1/2 x 10. John Hunter, owner of REL, recommended a pair 212SE for a combination hi end 2 channel and multichannel AV setup.

I would stick with the F113's for sure... I have a total of 5 of them throughout the house and are a good fit for the size room you are using.

I use two f112s and a cr-1 and have all the bass I could ever want in a pretty big room.

So I just got my 2 JLA fathom f113v2s - I want to get the best connection and it seems the best may be going from the men 220 lows into a left and right balance into the fathoms? That way I can get both HT and 2 channel.
Anyone see a problem with this? |
