Led Zeppelin Houses of the Holy LP. It was 1979 and my parents bought me a Fisher combo with a record player, a tape deck and some small speakers of some unknown origin. It wasn't much but it was all they could afford at the time and I was extremely grateful. My father did not buy anything for himself and he was also very much into music. So even then I knew a sacrifice was made. :yes:

I remember my first small record collection well. I had a dozen or so records and mostly Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Meat Loaf and AC/DC. I really did not know much American music outside of rock, pop and disco back when I was barely a teenager. :D I got into the Blues and Jazz later in my 20's

Houses of the Holy.....great record and awesome first! The Classic Records pressing of H.O.T.H. is one of the best sounding classic rock LPs I own. The dynamics are off the charts.

Of course between Tidal and Qobuz, there are at least 9 album versions in various resolution. I am more than OK with it these days. :D

Serge - Have both a RL and the Classic.....RL isn't as good....not gonna go as far to use the audiophile term "blows it away" (it doesn't), but it is quite a bit better.

I was talking about dynamic range. I am not sure what other differences there are between the classic and Bob Ludwig pressing. As far as average and maximum DR, the RL pressing is best.

I went all digital back in the 80's. In the last two years I got back into high end stereo and then decided to go back into vinyl during the pandemic. My first vinyl purchase was Poco's legend album on Mobile Fidelity pressing. I had always loved the album and I actually had it before my turntable arrived. My first analog purchase was actually the recored cleaning machine. I now have about 100 albums bought in the last 10 months.

I'd just graduated from high school in January 1957 and needed to pay for gas for my Chevy, so I taught accordion to little kids in a music store prior to starting college that fall. I bought a Webcor portable record player (mono) and these two black discs there to start off my collection:

Tamboo! disappeared at some point in the early '70s, but a scratchy London ffrr sampler still hangs around here somewhere.

I had plenty of 45's but this was my first album. "With The Beatles" in 1963. I didn't even have a way to play it. I had to go over to my Grandmothers because she had one of those RCA consoles that played everything. Nana even sat down in the parlor and listened with me. When she got up to go back to cooking she said " At least you have better tastes than your mother"
