Harmony 1000 remote and USB 3.0

Hello;

I recently had to get a new laptop due to issues with my old one and as I was installing and testing the software from the old laptop on the new one I ran into an issue with my Harmony 1000 remote. When I connected the USB cable the remote would simply not recognize a connection was made. I tried a number of different cables with no luck. I looked around on-line to see if people were having issues and I came across a couple interesting postings saying that some remotes are not USB 3.0 compatible. That was the difference between my new and old laptop. Is there anyway to get around this limitation as it seems at least to date no new drivers have been made available for the older Harmony remotes to make them work with USB 3.0.

Thanks

Rod.......I thought USB 3.0's specifications makes it backward compatible with USB 2.0. Perhaps the Harmony 1000 software is 32 bit and your new operating system is 64 bit. That might be the issue.

Logitech did nothing to maintain their Harmony remote Software. Now that have dumped the division, that's it.

I have version 7.7 installed for the 1000 & 900 which works on both x86 & x64 platforms.

Unfortunately, I'm not currently equipped to do a USB 3.0 test with the 1000 on hand.

Thanks guys. The 64 bit thing was a good idea but both my new and old laptop are 64 bit, old was Windows 7, new is Windows 8. I suppose it could be a Windows 8 thing but I didn't come across anything specifically with Windows 8 issues.

It's a real pisser that's for sure.

Windows 8 is fine. I use both windows 7 & 8.1 for updating the remotes.

Ron.......I just ordered a Windows 7 OEM disk from Amazon to do a clean install on a machine running Vista. I had thought about going with a new desktop but every new computer now comes with Windows 8 or 8.1 and I don't want it. The few machines still available with Windows 7 are configured less than the one I have running Vista so it makes sense to just wipe Vista off with a complete reformat of hard drive and do a fresh install of Windows 7. I have some music production software that requires the operating system to be 32 bit so that's the version of Windows 7 that will be installed.

I know that doesn't have anything to do with your remote issue, but it just came out. :)
