Bought my first record - what was yours?
Bought my first record a few days ago.
I was sipping and Octoberfest under my aspen's enjoy a breezy day while perusing eBay and reverb. I ended up with Pink Floyd's 1979 cut from MSFL Dark Side of the Moon. I've always love Pink Floyd, this album was big for me but to be honest The Wall is my favorite - still digging around for a good pressing. What about you? |
My 1st LP was Beatles 65 purchased in 1965.

My parents bought records for me but the first one I bought on my own using money I earned delivering newspapers was Tommy by The Who. 1969. Around the same time I also bought the first Creedence Clearwater Revival album.

David Bowie - Heroes
Must have been end of '77, or beginning of '78. Had to save quite some time to get the money together! :D |
Fun topic down memory lane. I only recall I rode my bike one hot summer day for what seemed like an hour to Eastpoint shopping mall in Baltimore County. This was in the early 1970s while I was in elementary school, maybe 6th or 7th grade. I bought an album by Kiss, and I can’t for the life of me recall which it was. I only know that I felt incredibly thirsty after having ridden so far in the sun ha ha ha. At least, I can recall that I used some of my money to buy a fountain soda, a Coca Cola—or was it Pepsi ha ha ha? More than actually buying the record, I vividly remember drinking that damn soda ha ha ha.
Buying an album was as much about buying a cover as buying a record, at least, for me this was true. Sometimes, I bought an album because I knew the music, and sometimes, it was to hear something new, but the joy of buying was imagining the music through the graphics and titles, of both known and unknown works. Thanks for the interesting topic, Mgrenwick. ron |

Santana's Abraxas in 1970 was the first album I purchased. I loved the music :music: but had to hide the album from my parents because the cover has a naked lady on it! :eek2:
