Anyone into watches?

Over the years I have gotten more and more into watches, it seems every day I find another one to add to the list.

Anyone else into watches and what are your favorite brands? For me, my top three are: Audemars Piguet, Richard Mille, Urwerk.

Masterlu 05-15-2009 11:06 AM

Oh we can make a forum for this topic. Big time watch collector here.

SoundEarphones 05-15-2009 11:07 AM

We should make a watch section.

Am going to look-look and check-check the prices!

Hmmm, maybe a touch-touch would not hurt! It may just heighten the desire to purchase!:tears:

Wife just gave the "ok" sign ... not totally but to that effect, so, can look, see, touch and maybe got the chance to BUY! :D

I really love today! Its indeed a nice day!

I heard $50k for the Lange Zeitwerk. Features "jump hour" and of course in house manual wind movement with a sapphire crystal back to appreciate the workmanship. I think Platinum may be even more $$$ as it usually is with Lange. :scratch2: For the horology fans, here is some in depth info on the watch http://www.worldtempus.com/en/news/w...ehne-zeitwerk/

Used to collect watches both vintage and complicated.
Pictured below is my favorite watch - a Patek Phillipe Perpetual Calendar with Chronograph, ref. 3970ep.
Picture borrowed from the Bay.

Bought the watch in 1994 and still have it, sitting in the safe deposit box, used to wear it daily.

http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m.../Patek3970.jpg

Current daily wear is the Rolex Bubbleback in 14k pink gold, circa 1945. Poorly photographed, very nice looking with nice patina in real life.
http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m...e/DSCN0298.jpg

Other favorites are

Classic, vintage 1970s, Cartier Tank Louise in 18k yellow gold with extra flat Piguet manual wind movement. Love the classic look, rather small by today's standard. I actually own two of these.
http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m...e/DSCN0296.jpg

Then there is this 1950s, Omega Moonphase in 18k pink gold. I need to learn how to take picture, the picture does not come out right. Subltle two tone dial.
http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m...e/DSCN0293.jpg

Can't forget this Art Deco era, circa 1945, Ladies Patek with articulate lugs in 18k pink gold belongs to my wife.
http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m...e/Patek001.jpg

http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m...e/Patek007.jpg

Other watches include vintage Rolex Oyster Perpetual, Catier Tank Americaine - hommage to Tank Cintre, Rolex Milguass Anniversay with Green Glass. Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso. Used to own a few other Patek Perpetual Calendar watches but sold them as they rarely got any wrist time. Can't seem to part with the Patek 3970ep though. Bought and sold quite a few watches during the last 25 years.

I like the Pink Gold Omega Moonphase. Sexy!

My favorite brands are Rolex Subs, IWC and Panerai.

Started in 1990 with TAG divers, Breitling Chronomat and Omega Seamaster...still have and wear occasionally. Wore these happily for over 10 years

Then came the original Rolex SeaDweller (still one of my favorites) and the "green sub" (Kermit)

At that time...i thought 40mm subs were huge...and again was satisfied for another 10 years

While I kept all of these....I bought a PAM243 for my 40th( and a C4S to go with it) and now wear 44mm almost exclusively

Over the last year...I added the IWC Big Pilot...awesome, the Rolex Deep Sea (a little top heavy) and the PAM317...carbon with coated movement. The 317...is my favorite...but the 243 gets the most wrist time.

I find it impossible to get rid of any...unfortunately my winder only works on 4 at a time.

I also like watches have a few inexpensive Swiss ones but once I had a used Omega Constellation.

New to Mac 07-25-2011 08:28 AM

I sport an Omega Seamaster Chrono, Breitling Navitimer, and, most recently, an Oris Pro Diver Date. I love big, chunky watches. Any suggestions for similar pieces?

Congrats! I've had the same Explorer II model as a daily for the last 12 years. Just had it completely overhauled by an authorised Rolex center in NYC and it looks brand new once again. Good to go for another 20 years.

WOW WOW WOW , Hi all newbie here , after having a quick scope at a few topics I dare say I'm in a different world With my Seiko watches and mainly preloved system from 90 on . All I'm going to dream about tonight is the beautifull systems you guys have and I never will (very shallow pockets LOL).
One day I will win the lottery ,No, day dreaming .
I'm glad I did as I got a lot to learn.

It's just a great watch. Excellent legibility, and because it's a Sinn, it runs accurately, precisely, and reliably. Sinns punch WAY above their price point for quality, performance, and durability. In fact, I think I'll throw it on to wear today.

Regardless of quality (and price obviously), never like Richard Mille watches, too gaudy for me. My next watch if I get around to it will most likely be this, an IWC Portuguese, open back, white face. Classy, sporty and dressy all at the same time. Love it. Also have my eye on a Jaeger Le Coultre Polaris, blue face. Nice watch as well.

^totally agree about RM, bought one years ago when they where newer to the market, sold it pretty quick, they have very fragile movements.

huge fan of IWC and JLC, killer pieces with a lot of history

Which Black Bay do you have? I have the original Blue, with ETA movement, Tudor rose logo and curved text...love it. Will always stay in the collection.

One of my faves and a permanent keeper is my Seiko Prospex 1965 Diver aka the...SPB143. LOVE this piece. While they are a standard production model, good luck finding one...

I usually wear on a Ribbed NATO from Sophie at Cheapest NATOs...she's got a great eye for color. This watch is a veritable strap monster...

“Standard” Black Bay, MT5602 movement, it’s such a great quality piece, love the blue on black though, it was a hard choice.
