Rebranded Telefunken Black Diamonds

I recently picked up two quads of balanced, matched, low noise 12AX7 tubes to have on hand just in case. I tested them on a Orange tube tester (very basic tester) and they all passed with flying colors. Not sure when I will give them a try.

Real Telefunken tubes are very common and should cost $50.00 each, well-balanced and low noise. Most reputable sellers offer returns for up to 90 days. Why when we spend so much on gear would we gross about the cost of vintage tubes?

I have those in my C2300. I like them. They're made in partnership with JJ Electronics. I noted on Tube Depot's website that they're out of stock and can't be backordered. Too bad, as TD has a sale on today.

I tried several tubes in my 2300, including Gold Lions. My impression was that the Gold Lions were well-balanced, too much so. The Black Diamonds sounded more dynamic, which is what I wanted. And they were more open-sounding than the JJ Hi-Performance Gold Pin tubes I'd used for quite a while. Those JJs were on the warm side of things with plenty of low end, which is why I liked them.
I'm no expert, but I think you'd like the Black Diamonds. |
