Speaker Binding Post Wrench

Thought others might find this useful to not bugger-up your speaker binding posts. Works great.

I agree, and use one. There was a time these were discontinued; I would grab one before they are gone again.

FWIW I have McIntosh speakers and they send a wrench with them. I think I got one with my amps as well. I will post a picture if anyone is interested.

Wilson also provides their speakers with a wrench. However, I still think this AQ wrench is an excellent idea though I probably won't buy one. Best Charles |
Actually the idea behind the Audioquest wrench (I have one) is that, because there's no arm to leverage and it's only the force you can apply with a hand grasp, you won't over-tighten. If the Mac wrench is sturdy enough to break the binding post, that's not necessarily a good thing.

Just installed my MC275 MKVI using the McIntosh supplied wrench. Not sure it would not strip-out if too much force is applied. The small side distorted when used on my speaker binding posts. Looking forward to the AQ wrench.

Here is the McIntosh wrench. You do need to make sure you do not over tighten or you might break off the post.

I think there have been significant improvements to binding posts over the years by many manufacturers. I think that Wilson, for example, has gradually improved their binding posts. One of the many qualities I like about Mac is that when they upgraded their binding posts, they were thoroughly re-engineered. A decade from now Mac will use this same binding post. It is imperative that good connections be made. This is the reason that I use balanced IC's. When I see an amplifier that is super expensive come out with upgraded binding posts, I wonder why they were not "upgraded" to begin with. One of the reasons I bought the 1.25KW was the binding posts. I never liked the old Mac binding posts at all. I think that hand tightening binding posts with your fingers with heavy expensive speaker cables and their spades lugs significantly inferior and really, simply a poor connection.
