Nordost quality concern

Attachment 63842Hi,
A year back the male side of AC connector on my Valhalla 2 power cord
was broken in pieces by itself. An AA friend convinced me to contact factory
for possible free repair. Nordost questioned me a a bit suspect that I may
drop it or hit it with something, but anyway was giving me factory return authorization number. The repair was very quick and free of charge including free return trip. That was such a great company.
Once it come back. I barely use it at all as during the downtime I managed
to find new cable already. Until today I put it in the box and I heard something
inside of the IEC side.. and ouchh the IEC side started to disintegrated the same way that I happened before.
I have two choices.
1. doing the same thing again by contacting Nordost and spend some money
to ship it to USA and hope to get it back safely again.
2. Ask them to send me a replacement part and I repair it myself.
3. forget about it and just put some nice Furutech connectors instead for more
durability. May be FI50NCF. But this way the cable cannot be resale anymore
as no one will trust that it is genuine.

Definitely have Nordost make this right for you. They are selling a premium product and you should expect premium materials and superb support. Once you get it back you can decide if you want to keep it, and a lot of that decision would be based on their quality of support.

The last time they provided superb support.
But they did not quite believe me that their plastic is of very poor quality.
This is a very costly Valhalla 2 with Halo Plug that they were so proud of. The last time I asked them about Furutech, they replied that their connectors were low mass design, which help the sound and they did not recommend high mass Furutech. But I remembered their Odin 1 came with that Furutech.

+1. If nothing else, it helps the company understand issues with its product.
But I'd dump the cable after receiving it back from the factory. I just don't have patience for things that don't work properly.

The OP could probably get a few $$ for it from a place like TMR. They're nice people. It's where I dumped my Aurender.

Wow that's quite bad. I mean, twice.. There is definately something going on and going wrong here. There seems to be a high level of stress in that connector in that it shatters in pieces like this. In my field, I have seen quenched steels shatter in pieces similar to this due to internal stress. Looks like the material is too brittle. You live in Thailand if I am not mistaken, I wonder if this is not a humidity/temperature related issue. Who knows..

As Cleeds suggested, I would as well have it repaired to pass it to someone else and move on. As we say in french, "jamais deux sans trois". It means, never two without three.

I think the plastic is poor quality.
In my room temp was never higher than 31c.
And all other cables survived .
All of these are all fine.

Looks subpar
I’m disappointed
Maybe a bad batch?

PeterMusic 01-15-2021 10:44 AM

I think it has to be a bad batch as Joey suggests, or some weird thing related to the storage conditions. Obviously, if this was something that occurred with any frequency, it would be a huge problem for Nordost

Nordost quality concern

This is odd - I have not had any problems with the V2 connectors over several years. No challenges on the plastic at all.

You have lifetime warranty and I would certainly ask Nordost to correct. You could even ask Nordost to terminate with Furutech NCF which would then not void your warranty and support.
