JBL L300's

What would your choice be for a preamp and amp to drive JBL L300's?

I'm thinking tube, Leben, McIntosh, or Marantz Model 5's or 8's.

Ivan.......JBL and McIntosh go together like Marilyn and mink. :D

If I were powering the L300's I would go with a McIntosh C2300 and a pair on MC275 MkVI amps running in mono. 150 watts of MAC tube power per channel will make the L300's sing.

Here's a pic of mine before I even hooked them up after a road trip to pick them up in Philadelphia.....I flew, rented a U-Haul and drove them back to Pittsburgh. This was 6-years ago....I looked for a good year b4 I found a mint pair...with an extra set of grill covers (unused) to boot!

I currently power mine with a Mark Levinson 38S preamp and a Mcintosh MC252 Power Amp......all balanced from preamp with Vampire XLR CCC AI/II interconnects. The high effeciency of the L300's barely moves the needles to the 25-watt area.

regards

What are you trying to do here Ivan? :D These beauties look suspiciously like those L300's I spotted in a listing this morning and sent to Dan....:scratch2:

Anyway, when I think of these I often think of a McIntosh MC452, preamp I'm not sure. Could be any of the McIntosh vintage preamps such as the C33, C34V, C40 etc.
Or as Dan says, the C2300 would be a great preamp choice. But I think the MC452 amp would make the L300's sing very nicely.

More recently however, I find myself thinking that, going entirely vintage, that the Crown Distinction series system I'm building up would do the L300's very good justice,
and vice versa. That would be sweet, sweet, sweet. Too bad I won't have the room in my house or budget to do that....

Skydog....very nice system you have there indeed! I used to own an MC252 amp and really liked it. I'm sure it makes those L300's sing!
