2023 Nissan Z

Just as the rumors predicted, the seventh-gen Z-car is powered by Nissan's 3.0-liter VR30DDTT twin-turbo V6 producing 400 hp and 350 pound-feet of torque. In the 2023 Z, this engine makes peak power at 6,400 rpm, peak torque from 1,600 to 5,600 rpm, and revs to 6,800. Small-diameter turbos and an electronic variable valve timing intake system are said to contribute to better response and fuel efficiency.

Transmission choices include an optional nine-speed automatic with aluminum paddle shifters or the standard six-speed, close-ratio manual. The latter is accompanied by a high-performance Exedy clutch, a carbon fiber composite driveshaft, and, on the higher Performance trim, rev-matching—a technology first pioneered by this car's predecessor and subsequently adopted by many other manual performance cars.

Gosh...has it been 20 years since I purchased my new 2003 Nissan 350Z Track model?

Whoa...

Time flies when you are having fun. I’m liking the 280Z looking retro rear treatment and overall lines that resemble the icon of the past. The front leaves a bit to be desired but then again I really have a hard time understanding most modern efforts of design.

That will be a sweet ride - part of the challenge to today's designs are the constraints due to safety regulations. Serge, at first glance of your first post photo, the rear end reminded me of a Mustang (no offense meant to any Ford or Nissan fans!).

I can see how looking at just the rear, it seems to resemble a Mustang. It is the 3/4 views and side views that show off the resemblance to the 240/280Z heritage. Well, sort of at least. It even reminds me of my Nissan 200SX from many moons ago... :D

I like most of the design except the front which looks a bit too modern and unappealing to me.

The price is supposed to be around $40k base. Not bad for a 400HP coupe that also offers a manual and rev matching down shifts.

You get a 255HP 2.0L Toyota Supra for $43k and the 382HP version will set you back at least $51k and $54k for premium trim, so the Nissan Z is a fairly good value. Not to mention the Supra does not even offer a manual! How insulting to the enthusiasts!

The rear design is vaguely similar to the 300Z generation of cars.

It does because the 300z was also styled to have just a bit of the Datsun 240/280z heritage. You can even pick up on the Nissan GT-R roofline and other similarities in the styling cues.

The design of this new Z is an obvious and intentional retro appeal effort.

I think for most brands that have had success in the past and their products became icons, the designers would be wise to add tasteful elements of the history that translate well into the modern version. IMO, Nissan did a very good job. The 240/280z are classic designs that became timeless icons over the decades.

Bought my 2003 Blue Touring 350Z brand new in January of 2003. I sold it two days shy of the 15 year anniversary of the purchase date. Original clutch. It was blue and bone stock.

Clapton's One More Car, One More Rider in that car was my audio playback reference until I got my first and only stereo in 2018. ;)

Only thing I have left of my '77 280Z. My first new car. Just loved it! Color was 110 Persimmon.
