I was supposed to get a nice listen to these guys at CES, they were powered by a C2300/AVP871/MC205, but there were so many bodies running in and out and a bunch of old guys having a meeting behind us... I didn't want to be prick-ish. They LOOK beautiful, though.

And a pic of it here, from a slightly different angle...

The Phantom looks to be a very nice flagship model. With Joe D'Appolito, who joined Snell as chief engineer in 2003, guiding the Snell design team, there will be some unique speaker designs coming forth. He is best known for developing the D'Appolito Array, as well as authoring Testing Loudspeakers, considered by many as the premier book on the subject. Definitive Technologies still uses the D'Appolito Array in their Super Tower bi-polar speakers.

The Phantom loudspeaker looks attractive. I was surprised to learn it uses the SEAS silk dome tweeter. PMC uses those as well. What I found very interesting is both the 4 1/2 inch midrange driver and the two 8 inch woofers are made of metal. The midrange is magnesium, and the woofers are aluminum. I think I will try to locate a Snell dealer in my area. I would like to hear how these speakers sound.

I think that was the one they had at AK Fest powered by a 7000 integrated. They were about $10k and that room actually sounded better than the XR-200's powered by tube gear.

Jim......I saw where they were being demonstrated at the AK Fest. Joe D'Appolito was their to introduce the new model. $20K a pair. I want to hear them, but I don't think they are in dealers showrooms yet. That's one of the reasons I am curious about their new production facility in Binghamton. I am wondering if the new Phantom speaker will be produced there.

I must have heard the $10k but missed the "apiece" bit.

Jim.......At $10K a pair, I don't think Snell could make them fast enough.

These are very nice speakers (and I have heard them), but I must say that to my ears the McIntosh XR200 sound better.
