Default MCD-1100 Review in Hi Fi News

I just read Ken Kessler's review of the MCD-1100 in the August 11 issue of Hi Fi News. It will come as no surprise to those who own or have heard the unit that KK's review was very positive.

I was a bit surprised that he mainly reviewed the unit as a SACD player and only briefly touched on its CD capabilities. If you read my comments on the 1100 you will see that I noted how much better the 1100 seems to do on SACD than the MCD-500.

Jim,
Can you let me/us have more details on the Hi Fi news review ?
I have been contemplating getting a MCD-1100 to possibly replace my ARC CD-8.

Anyone have experience with the MCD-1100 vs ARC CD-8 or CD -7 ?

Thanks,
Bill

I read this review. Very positive. I do, however, have a question about the front of the 1100. HIFI news has a picture of the front of the unit in all black, the 3D section. The McIntosh website has the picture with silver horizontal rails on top and bottom of the 3D section. So, for those of you who have this unit, which picture is what they are shipping? The McIntosh website picture, or the picture in the August edition of hifinews?

Thanks.......Scott

Cool. I like the black one better. Thanks for your reply. I'll be ordering one in a few weeks.

I am really annoyed that they did not carry the 1000 series styling forward, especially when all their literature (handouts and print ads) showed otherwise. Every time I insert a disc into the unit which sits on a shelf between my C1000 pieces I get upset no matter how great it sounds.

I too think the 1000 series styling is much more attractive.

Since SACD is of no concern to me, my dream now is to acquire an MCD1000 transport. As far as I'm concerned, my quest for CD playback perfection will end there. What a gorgeous piece.

Maybe some day I will see if the vertical end pieces are interchangeable and hope someday Ivan can do with the top two horizontal pieces what he did with the handles he supplies. The 1100 volume would be just too low to tool I would guess.
